Buying a new spa is much more than dimensions, jet count, or price point...
Avoid the dissappointment fo what sounded like a good deal. Often retailers and the Internet just try to sell you on low cost or unrealistic claims. Frequently they have little if any knowledge or experience. They are just trying to make a sale.

We're just the opposite - we believe that showing you and explaining in detail all of the various components and considerations allows you to make the best possible decision. After all, it's your hard earned money and we think you're entitled to get your money's worth.

BIGGEST MYTHS AND MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT SPAS

  • HORSEPOWER
  • JETS
  • ERGONOMICS
  • INSULATION
  • COMPUTERIZED CONTROLS
  • FILTRATION
  • CIRCULATION PUMP/OZONE SYSTEM
  • CABINET CONSTRUCTION
  • AIR BUBBLER PUMP W/AROMA THERAPY BEADS
  • CONVERTIBLE 110V SPA
Some manufacturers advertise high HP output suggesting bigger and better. The truth is oversized motors simply waste energy. ROYAL SPA® carefully engineers their systems to ensure smooth balanced flow. The attention to detail provides maximum efficiency and the lowest possible energy consumption.
Don't be fooled, more jets does not equate to better therapy or enjoyment. Proper jet design and placement are what's truly important. The water flowing from the jets should be soft and smooth. Blending air into the the flow will invigorate the water and provide a more aggressive and penetrating massage. Most ROYAL SPA® models have interchangeable jets that allow you to "customize" the jet configuration to suit your own personal tastes.
Some companies advertise their spas will seat six. Sure, if everyone's 5 foot 100 pounds. When choosing your new spa, think about the users, their size, shape and height. Think about the desired results. Do you want a comfortable, relaxing, and therapeutic massage of your neck, shoulders, upper back, hands and wrists, thight, calves and feet...or jet bubbles?

Some 'big name' manufacturers coat their spa shell including the jets and plumbing with spray on foam insulation which helps to strengthen a weak shell design and then they "sell you" on the idea that this system is more energy efficient. This really isn't the case. ROYAL SPA features a 50+ R factor "perimeter insulation" system which has two huge advantages:

  1. Heat given off by the pumps and equipment isn't wasted but instead used to help heat the water.
  2. This design provides 100% access for easy servicing of the jets, plumbing, and equipment. This dramatically reduces future maintenance costs.
Fully digital programmable systems are nice but replacement costs can easily run into the $350 to $500 range. ROYAL SPA® continues to offer lower cost analog control systems which are much easier to service. This ROYAL SPA® advantage means a lower long-term cost of ownership. (ROYAL SPA® does offer optional digital systems.)
Most manufacturers use large or multiple cartridge "suction side" filter systems. The engineers at ROYAL SPA favor a unique "pressure side" design. There are three big advantages with pressure side systems:
  1. They use smaller less expensive filters.
  2. They take up less space in the tub.
  3. They are less likely to cause a loss of circulation and heating.

Notably, the automobiel industry has used pressure side filter systems for 50+ years.

To filtertewater, many manufacturer utilize a large jet pump running on a low speet setting to draw water through their filter(s). ROYAL SPA uses a small highly energy efficient 24 hour circulation pump to push the water through the filter. This design operates more quietly, provides even heating, and combined with Royal's standard Ozone Generator, results in sparkling clear water with dramatically lower energy consumption.
Cabinets need to be great looking but they also need to be strong and have a long lifespan. ROYAL SPAS use pressure treated 2X4 lumber for the frame, a top rail bracing system, and a one piece fiberglass floor pan to assure ultimate strength and durability.
Some manufacturers offer aroma therapy via "air bubblers" that inject cold air directly into the water. Aroma therapy can be easily added directly to your water without any adverse effect on water temperature, chemistry, or filtration.
A typical household circut is 110 Volt 15 Amp. These 110V spas have only one pump, few jets, and to keep from overloading the circuit, their heater won't operate when the jets are running. Another downside is that the 100V heater will only raise the water temperature1 to 2 degrees per hour. That's why these "convertible" spas are less money. Even though some can be hard wired to a 220V source to improve heater operation, you still have an inferior tub.
